The course aims to produce graduates who:
  • are aware of the links between curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, policies and practices designed to improve learning outcomes and well-being for students with special needs;
  • have developed in-depth knowledge of teaching students with special needs;
  • can effectively teach within, and across, Learning Areas; and
  • understand both the complexity of teachers' work and the importance of educating all students in developing active and healthy attitudes, values, knowledge, skills, and understandings

On completion of the course graduates will be able to:
  • translate and apply knowledge gained from reading, discussion, and writing into educational practices;
  • plan and utilise a range of effective instructional strategies to assist students with special needs to achieve learning objectives, with an emphasis on generalisation of knowledge and skills across environments and settings;
  • develop individualised learning programs anchored in curricula; and
  • recommend and implement adaptations to classroom, school and community environments that promote inclusive practices.
This programme provides an option for those who have completed the Diploma in Special Education through the National Institute of Education (NIE) and desire to upgrade their qualifications to a degree level.

Applicants should meet one of the following entry requirements2:
  • A recognised Bachelor Degree
  • A recognised Polytechnic Diploma (minimum three years)
  • GCE 'A' levels + NIE's Diploma in Special Education (DISE) + one year of teaching experience
All applications are assessed on an individual basis.
Applicants are encouraged to include referee statements and employment history.

*Module fee payments are to be made directly to Flinders University in Australian dollars upon acceptance to the programme, on a modular basis at least 4 weeks before module commencement.

#Terms and conditions to be eligible for SkillsFuture Funding, learners must meet ALL of the following criteria::
  1. Be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
  2. Meet minimum 75% attendance criteria for lectures and tutorials
  3. Achieve a "Pass" or "Competence" grade in assessment for each module

2Note: For candidate who does not possess the NIE's DISE, the attainment of this degree does not guarantee the candidate to be registered as a Ministry of Education (MOE) Special Education School Teacher. However, candidates can apply directly to MOE where approval will be on a case-by-case basis.

A non-refundable application fee of $53.50 (including GST) is payable upon submission of application form.
