SkillsFuture Study Awards for the Social Service Sector

In keeping with the government’s aim to nurture lifelong learners, we help you develop and deepen specialist skills or nurture other professional competencies that will enable you to perform better and deliver a greater impact to society.
As a social service professional, you must be able to:
  • anticipate and plan for changing needs
  • mobilise community resources
  • provide integrated and holistic solutions
  • work with policy-makers to improve social programmes and policies
With the SkillsFuture Study Award, we empower you to do just that.  

Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the SkillsFuture Study Award, you must:
  • be a Singapore citizen
  • have at least two years of full-time social service sector work experience (can be accumulated across different years).
  • Must currently holds or should have held a position in one of the social service key professions e.g. Counsellor, Early Intervention Programme for Infants and Children (EIPIC) Teacher, Psychologist, Social Worker, Therapist or in managerial or support positions e.g. Social Work Associate, Social Service Assistant
  • not be a previous SkillsFuture Study Award recipient
  • be committed to deepening skills that are relevant to the sector
  • preferably be employed by an NCSS member social service agency or Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF)-funded social service agency.
  • have a good track record in contributing to the learning and development of self and/or others
  • demonstrate good work performance, self-improvement and upgrading, as well as a commitment to the sector
  • not be serving any current bond. If you are on the Professional Development and Management Programme (PDMP), Leadership Development Programme (LDP), Sabbatical Leave Scheme (SLS) or Scholarship Scheme, you must declare upon application that you are a recipient of the PDMP, LDP, SLS or Scholarship Scheme. You can only apply for the SkillsFuture Study Award after completing your bond/Minimum Service Period (MSP).
  • be undergoing the programme at the point of application, whereby the programme completion date is at least 6 months from the date of Application.  
Alternatively, applicants who meet the above mentioned criteria can also be nominated for the award by their employers.

Courses eligible under the SkillsFuture Study Award       
SkillsFuture Study Award only supports courses or academic programmes that have a course fee of $2,500 and above and falls under one or more of the following categories:

  • conducted by the Social Service Institute (SSI) and/or courses funded by VWOs-Charities Capability Fund (VCF)
  • identified by the Social Service Agency (applicable to candidates who are nominated by their employers)
  • leads to a recognised social service qualification (i.e. WSQ Diploma in Social Service, Bachelor of Social Work, Graduate Diploma in Social Work etc.)

How to apply

Applicants will be required to submit their application online via SkillsFuture Singapore’s Application Management system (AMS).

The application period is open every quarter. Please refer to the table provided below to details on the application period, processing period and disbursement period.

Evaluation & Outcome:

Your application will be processed and evaluated after the application period for the quarter has ended. You will be informed about the application outcome approximately 4 to 6 weeks from the application closing date.

Incomplete applications or applications without supporting documents will not be processed. Shortlisted applicants will be notified via email.
